Sacramento secured a postseason spot Saturday night after a 1-1 home draw against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. The single point earned at Heart Health Park guarantees Republic FC will compete in the 2026 USL Championship Playoffs. The home match took place before a sold-out crowd.

The draw extended the club unbeaten streak to 11 matches. It also earned Sacramento its 12th playoff berth in 13 seasons. Neither team scored during the first half of play.

Talen Maples broke the tie early in the second half for Colorado Springs. That goal gave the visiting team a 1-0 advantage. Sacramento answered late in the game.

With 15 minutes left, Kyle Edwards took a penalty kick. Edwards scored the equalizer. The goal brought the home crowd to its feet.

Goalkeeper Danny Vitiello made multiple stops to preserve the tie for Republic FC. Vitiello made a diving save in the seventh minute. He stopped another shot in the 22nd minute.

Sacramento had entered Saturday with a 10-match unbeaten streak. Republic FC will work to climb the Western Conference standings before the playoffs begin. The squad has two matches remaining on the regular-season schedule.

Sacramento travels to play El Paso Locomotive FC on Saturday, October 17. Republic FC then returns home to face Oakland Roots SC on October 24.

USL Championship teams earn points toward postseason seeding based on regular-season wins and draws. Postseason tournaments determine league champions through single-elimination matches. Teams host playoff games based on final regular-season table standing.

Republic FC holds an officially secured playoff spot with two games left to play in Sacramento and on the road.
