About Us

Port City Ledger is an independent local newsroom covering Stockton, California, and the San Joaquin County communities around it. We report on city hall, public safety, schools, sports and the economy of a city built on the Delta and the Port of Stockton.

What we cover

• Latest News — the newest stories from across Stockton, as they happen.
• Local News — the Stockton City Council, San Joaquin County, housing, transit, schools and the neighborhoods.
• Crime — the Stockton Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office, the courts and public safety.
• Sports — high school leagues, University of the Pacific, the Stockton Ports and local clubs.
• National — national stories and what they mean for Stockton: the economy, the port, jobs and policy.

How we work

We go to the meeting, read the filing and call the people named in it. We tell readers what we know, how we know it and what we still do not know, and we name our sources wherever we can.

Our independence

No advertiser, sponsor, political party or government agency has any say in what we cover or how we cover it.
