More than 160,000 fans expected at Aftershock festival in Sacramento
Organizers expect more than 160,000 fans in Sacramento as the four-day Aftershock festival kicks off at Discovery Park with over 140 bands performing.
The four-day Aftershock music festival begins Thursday at Discovery Park in Sacramento. Organizers expect more than 160,000 attendees for the fourteenth annual punk, rock and metal event. The festival will feature five performance stages and more than 140 bands.
General manager Chamie McCurry of promoter Danny Wimmer Presents said the event is headed toward record attendance. She said tickets are on track to sell out completely.
The festival includes on-site camping for the first time. Campgrounds are located at Cal Expo near the park and ride shuttle program.
McCurry stated that 67 percent of attendees travel from outside the Sacramento region. Event organizers said the gathering generates an estimated $39 million for the local economy.
“We will have fans come from all 50 states, 30 countries,” McCurry said. “We’re welcoming a worldwide audience.”
Headlining acts include My Chemical Romance, Limp Bizkit, Pierce the Veil and TOOL. Other scheduled performers include Sublime, The Offspring and Blessthefall.
Festival attendee Liam Fischer said he plans to attend with his parents and girlfriend. Attendees Moises and Kate traveled from Los Angeles for their first visit to the event.
“I can’t imagine life without music,” Moises said.
McCurry advised ticket holders to dress for the weather and drink plenty of water. She also instructed fans to bring clear bags and establish group meeting spots.
Discovery Park is a Sacramento county park situated at the confluence of the American and Sacramento rivers. Large multi-day music events at regional parks use designated transit points and security screening zones to manage crowds.
Gates open Thursday at 11 a.m. Headliner My Chemical Romance performs Thursday night to mark the 20th anniversary of the album The Black Parade.
