The Auburn Municipal Airport runway is closed after a small jet overshot the strip by 150 feet Tuesday morning, officials said. No injuries were reported.
A small jet overshot the runway at Auburn Municipal Airport on Tuesday morning, officials said. The strip remains closed to traffic while emergency crews work at the scene.
No injuries occurred during the incident. The cause has not yet been determined, the city of Auburn said in a news release. An airport official said the number of passengers aboard is unknown.
The city received reports of the overrun at about 10:24 a.m. Emergency responders found the Eclipse Jet roughly 150 feet past the south end of the strip.
Airport Manager Tyghe Richardson is coordinating with local police and fire departments. He is also working with the National Transportation Safety Board and the plane owner.
The jet may not be recovered immediately due to its size and location, according to city officials. Crews are standing by. Officials are developing a recovery plan.
Federal Aviation Administration records show the aircraft is registered to These Coins Are Cool LLC. The firm is an Idaho company. Such small private jets typically carry six to eight passengers, an airport official said.
Auburn Municipal Airport is a public facility located three miles north of Auburn in Placer County. The city owns the 285-acre site and its adjacent industrial park.
The landing strip will remain shut while emergency personnel and the aircraft stay in the area.
