Actor RJ Mitte has died in Brownsville, Texas, according to police. His death leaves co-stars and advocates across the country mourning his loss. The Brownsville Police Department confirmed the news on Monday. The cause and manner of death were under investigation.

Co-stars from the television show “Breaking Bad” shared messages honoring the actor. Mitte played the character Walter White Jr. starting at age 14.

Actor Bryan Cranston posted about the loss on Instagram alongside a photograph. He reflected on Mitte’s personal drive and determination.

“Born with Cerebral Palsy, he never , ever , allowed that challenge to be an excuse for anything,” he said. “He met the demanding shooting schedule head on with great determination.”

Cranston called him a fine actor with promise and potential. He stated he was in deep despair.

Cast member Dean Norris said he was working when he learned of the death. He played the uncle of Mitte’s character on the program.

“Oh my God!” Norris wrote in his post. He called Mitte a sweetheart of a young man.

Co-star Aaron Paul also issued a statement regarding his friend’s passing. Paul said he felt heartbroken over the news.

“RJ, I love you my friend. You will be missed,” Paul said. He offered words of comfort to anyone reading his message.

Twin actors Daniel Moncada and Luis Moncada posted photos and memories of Mitte. Both referred to him as their lil brother.

Mitte was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at age 3. He worked as an advocate for people with disabilities.

Mitte spoke to the Associated Press about his condition in 2014. He said physical therapy, family problems and high medical bills aided his acting work.

“You develop a different mentality and you develop a different look at how the world sees you and how you see the world,” he said. “You’re able to use that. And I think it’s an asset instead of something that would hinder.”

Mitte served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. He also led the Mitte Foundation as its president.

The foundation spearheads community work in Brownsville, Texas. Leaders of the Mitte Cultural District issued a statement Monday praising his local service.

“RJ was a tremendous asset to our community, and we are devastated by this loss,” the statement said. District officials praised his belief in local artists and arts culture.
