A 48-year-old man is in federal custody in Houston after an agency truck struck him during a chase. The injured passenger was taken to a hospital, and local sheriff deputies are reviewing video of the crash. His exact medical condition is not established, according to investigators.
The collision occurred on Saturday morning near Highway 6, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Federal agents were pursuing an automobile carrying a wanted suspect. That chase moved southbound along the highway.
The fleeing car stopped suddenly. Two men ran from the vehicle on foot. Agents tried to box in the passenger near a building. One of the official trucks then hit the fleeing suspect.
Paramedics took the 48-year-old man to a local medical center. Deputies believe the impact broke his leg. The injured pedestrian remains in federal custody, according to deputies.
The sheriff’s vehicular crimes unit is investigating the west Houston crash. Investigators will review surveillance video from surrounding businesses to determine the events.
Harris County Precinct 4 Commissioner Lesley Briones issued a public statement about the collision.
“I am horrified to learn that an ICE vehicle struck a man on Clay Road this morning in Precinct 4. While we wait to learn more, my prayers are with his family. Under the Trump administration, ICE has brought chaos and destruction to communities across our country. ICE must cooperate fully with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and release all video evidence of this incident. We demand full transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law.”
Vehicular crimes units typically review collision scenes. They collect evidence and assess physical damage. Investigators examine recorded video to trace vehicle movements.
The federal agency was operating in west Houston during the Saturday pursuit. Local deputies have not released any further details on the incident.
