Vincent Robert Mendez arrested after Modesto bank robbery investigation
Police in Modesto arrested Vincent Robert Mendez at a casino hours after he allegedly robbed a local bank teller and fled using a rideshare vehicle.
Vincent Robert Mendez is jailed in Stanislaus County following a Modesto bank heist investigation, police announced. Officers took him into custody within six hours of the incident.
The Modesto Police Department responded late in the afternoon on Oct. 2 to the bank of Stockton. Investigators identified Mendez as the suspect in the incident.
Officials said Mendez approached a teller with a demand note. He obtained cash from the teller. He fled on foot.
Mendez changed his appearance in an alley nearby, according to officials. He requested a rideshare ride and left the city. Officers located the vehicle and conducted a stop.
The driver told officers that Mendez had already been dropped off. Rideshare search warrant records confirmed his identity, officials said.
The search shifted to Chicken Ranch Casino in Tuolumne County. Detectives verified Mendez was present. They teamed with casino security and caught Mendez actively gambling.
Mendez admitted to committing a robbery in Turlock on Sept. 30, police said. He had been involved in bank robberies in Oregon and Washington. He previously served time in prison.
County jails hold individuals awaiting initial court hearings on pending felony charges. Inmates booked on local warrants undergo processing before formal arraignment dates are scheduled.
Mendez was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on suspicion of bank robbery, commercial burglary and possession of narcotics.
