Ronnell L. Williams charged in St. Louis casino winner robbery
Ronnell L. Williams was charged in a St. Louis casino robbery after police say he targeted and followed a woman who won over $3,200 at a nearby venue.
Ronnell L. Williams faces two felony charges in St. Louis following an armed street robbery. A court issued an arrest warrant for him on Saturday after prosecutors reviewed the case. The incident took place on Oct. 6 in the Near North Riverfront neighborhood, according to a police statement.
The victim had won more than $3,200 on slot machines at the Casino Queen in East St. Louis, police said. Williams, 36, watched the woman play and saw her win the payout, according to investigators.
Williams followed the victim in his own vehicle when she left the property, police said. She drove across the Eads Bridge into St. Louis.
Williams pulled alongside her vehicle on Lumiere Place Boulevard, according to the statement. He motioned for her to roll down her window. He told her that her muffler was loose.
The victim refused to pull over. Williams then tried to run her car off the road, police said. She stopped to confront him.
Williams got out of his car, according to police. He pulled out a firearm. Police say he then demanded her money.
Investigators used casino surveillance video to find the suspect. License plate readers helped trace his car.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Williams with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action. In Missouri, an arrest warrant allows law enforcement officers to take an accused person into custody.
The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department filed the probable cause statement in the case.
