A 38-year-old man was hospitalized Monday night following gunfire in Stockton, according to authorities. Officers are seeking the male shooter, and the wounded man is expected to recover.

The Stockton Police Department said officers were called around 8:14 p.m. to Mormon Slough and Commerce Street. That intersection sits in the Seaport District.

The victim was in the area at that time. A man approached him and brandished a gun. The suspect then shot at him, hitting him once.

The victim fled the scene on foot. He was taken to an area hospital for medical care. He survived the attack.

Detectives with the department regularly interview witnesses and collect evidence following violent crimes. Patrol units often canvas surrounding neighborhoods to locate fleeing suspects.

The Stockton Police Department continues to search for the male suspect.
