Jason Lee position as Stockton vice mayor reviewed by city council
The Stockton City Council will review Vice Mayor Jason Lee's job performance and leadership role Tuesday, but leaders will not vote on removal.
Stockton city leaders scheduled a review of Vice Mayor Jason Lee on Tuesday, municipal meeting documents show. The City Council will evaluate his job performance and whether his goals still serve the panel.
The city council agenda lists discussions about Lee and his continued leadership role. It is not established if the council holds the authority to remove him. A legal review and public hearings might be required first.
Because of those open questions, leaders will not make a formal decision about his removal Tuesday. Lee was unanimously appointed to the seat in January 2025. That specific term concludes at the end of 2026.
Lee, Mayor Christina Fugazi and other local figures have disagreed publicly for months. Council members plan to evaluate if his goals match the interests of Stockton. Tensions rose recently.
Officials might also remove Lee from his seat as audit committee chair. Councilmember Michelle Padilla would replace him in that role if the motion passes. Lee addressed both items online.
Lee said he believes the motions follow heated council sessions in September. He commented on social media before the meeting.
“…let me get dressed for mediation. See you at council on Tuesday,” he said in a social media post.
If Lee loses the vice mayor title, he remains an elected council member. His council term runs through 2028.
City councils routinely assign internal leadership roles and committee assignments to elected members. Municipal governing bodies review administrative posts when workplace disputes arise. Rules often require legal guidance before formal votes.
Lee will attend the Stockton session to address the agenda topics directly.
