Police in Sonora arrested Nicole Mead on felony robbery and carjacking charges after a three-day search following an assault at a local AMPM.
Nicole Mead was taken into custody in Sonora on multiple felony charges, police said. She was booked into jail following a three-day search by local officers. Officers located the 43-year-old Twain Harte resident on Thursday.
She was booked into the Tuolumne County Jail. She faces charges of felony robbery, felony carjacking and felony injury to elder. Mead also faces a misdemeanor purse snatching charge.
The arrest followed an incident on the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 19. A fight broke out between Mead and another woman at an AMPM in Sonora. Officers responded to the scene and interviewed the victim.
Mead assaulted the woman during an attempt to steal vehicle keys, according to officers. She was not identified at that time. She gained access to the vehicle.
Mead stole items from the victim’s purse, officers determined. The victim defended herself. Mead then fled the scene.
Jail bookings process suspects on preliminary allegations before formal court filings occur. Criminal charges must be filed through the local court system. Defendants maintain a presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
The Sonora Police Department said the report was based on suspicion of the listed crimes. All charges are allegations.
