A man was arrested in Vallejo on accusations of targeting an officer and striking a cruiser with a blade. The incident led to hate crime allegations and an immediate booking into the county jail. Officials announced the custody action following the confrontation.
The event occurred at around 8 p.m. on Oct. 16. Officers were helping a community member on the 2000 block of Solano Drive. The citizen had a broken down vehicle.
One officer assisted the stranded driver. Another officer remained seated inside a police vehicle. An object suddenly struck the cruiser’s partially open driver’s side window, officials said.
The seated officer looked up. He saw an uninvolved man walking towards him. The officer exited his vehicle, officials said. He found a knife on the ground.
The man admitted to throwing the weapon at the car, according to officials. He also threatened to stab the officer. Officers detained the suspect.
He was placed into a cruiser. He resisted attempted searches during the stop, police said.
The man continued to threaten officers, according to the Vallejo Police Department. He attempted to kick them. He also spat on them during separate encounters.
Officials said the suspect directed racial and discriminatory remarks toward officers. He admitted that he intentionally spat on one officer because the officer was Black, according to officials.
A records check revealed an outstanding warrant. It was for a parole violation connected to a robbery conviction.
Jail bookings document incoming inmates and secure them before court appearances. Arrest warrants allow officers to take wanted individuals into custody. Parole violations can result in revoked release terms.
Officers arrested the man and booked him into the Solano County Jail in Vallejo.
