Federal investigators in Sacramento arrested 123 people during a four-month violent crime crackdown, officials said. The collaborative nationwide effort took aim at fugitives, violent gangs and offenses against children. The operation ran between June 1 and Sept. 30.

The enforcement effort also focused on finding child victims and resolving violent crime cases. Agents with the local field office recovered 30 illegal weapons. They identified and found 15 children.

“This second year of Operation Summer Heat clearly demonstrates the FBI’s focus on crushing violent crime and the whole-of-government approach necessary to ensure safer communities,” FBI Sacramento Special Agent in Charge Brian Tosh said. “We are surging resources and working shoulder-to-shoulder with our law enforcement partners at all levels to remove violent crime and dangerous drugs from the communities we serve.”

Sacramento agents carried out 69 drug seizures, officials said. Confiscated narcotics included:

  • 7.51 kilograms of fentanyl
  • 562.03 kilograms of methamphetamine
  • 56.63 kilograms of cocaine
  • nearly one kilogram of MDMA

The crackdown reached nationwide levels across the summer. Across the country, law enforcement officers arrested 8,927 people. They seized 5,013 illegal weapons.

Nationwide drug seizures totaled 687 kilograms of deadly fentanyl. Authorities also confiscated 27,512 kilograms of cocaine across the country.

Agents, task force officers and intelligence analysts investigated violent crimes against children, according to the FBI. These nationwide efforts identified or located 1,410 child victims.

Federal field offices partner with local police departments to pursue fugitive cases across multiple jurisdictions. Joint task forces combine local resources with federal intelligence analysts during multi-month enforcement drives.

The Sacramento field office concluded its seasonal operation at the end of September.
