Early voting in San Joaquin County runs through Monday, Nov. 2. Voters can cast a ballot in person at the Registrar of Voters office in Stockton. The office sits at 44 N. San Joaquin St., Suite 350, in Stockton. Weekday hours run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31 brings the same hours, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Every registered voter in the county was mailed a ballot. Ballots were mailed by Oct. 5. A voter who needs a replacement can get one at the Registrar’s Office.
Voters can also vote on an accessible touch screen machine at the office. Completed ballots can go back by mail, to a polling place or to an official drop box.
The mail clock has nearly run out. Oct. 27 was the last day to request a vote-by-mail ballot. A mailed ballot must be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received within seven days to count.
Voters mailing close to Election Day should ask a postal employee for a hand-stamped postmark. A safer choice now is a drop box or the Registrar’s Office.
A missed registration deadline is not the end of the road. Conditional voter registration runs from Oct. 20 through Election Day. An eligible voter who missed the Oct. 19 deadline can appear in person at the Registrar’s Office or a polling place. The voter registers and votes provisionally for this election.
Conditional voter registration lets an eligible voter register after the deadline and vote provisionally. A provisional ballot is counted after officials confirm the voter’s eligibility. A drop box is a secure county box for completed ballots.
Stockton voters with questions can call the Registrar of Voters at 209-468-8683. Polling places on Election Day are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
