A semi-truck hit a railroad trestle Monday morning in Marysville, blocking traffic on State Route 70. Both travel directions shut down after the collision, according to the California Department of Transportation.

The impact happened near 24th Street in Marysville. The large rig struck the underside of the structure. Caltrans officials reported that detail in a social media update.

The wreckage shut down every eastbound and southbound lane. Caltrans warned motorists to stay away from the area. Officials said the roadway would remain shut for “several hours” at 10:40 a.m.

Traffic stopped completely. Caltrans oversees the maintenance and operation of state highways. Crews respond to bridge collisions to inspect structures before traffic resumes.

Commuters heading through Marysville should choose alternative routes during the ongoing highway closure.
