Raymundo Mesa was jailed in Yuba City after falling through a ceiling during a police standoff. The incident ended a six-month search for the wanted felon from Arbuckle, authorities reported on Monday. The suspect is 42 years old.

Mesa had been wanted for more than six months, police said. Officers discovered he possessed a machine gun, suppressor and other firearms in Colusa County. Mesa had fled law enforcement several times by car and on foot, the Yuba City Police Department stated.

Officers and deputies searched a house on the 1200 block of Payne Court. They suspected Mesa was inside. They also believed he was armed.

A SWAT team arrived on scene. Mesa immediately fled out the back and entered an empty house, police said. A standoff then began inside the second home.

Officers used verbal orders, chemicals and a police dog for several hours, police said. These tactics failed to coax Mesa outside. The standoff ended when Mesa fell through the ceiling. He was hiding in an attic.

Police arrested Mesa. He went to a hospital for his injuries. Officers searched the home. They found a loaded Glock handgun and a discarded phone.

Officers booked Mesa into the Sutter County Jail on Friday morning. He faces charges for being a felon possessing a gun, resisting officers and an outstanding Colusa County felony warrant. He is held without bail.

County jail facilities house people who are awaiting local court appearances or facing pending warrants. Transferred inmates often remain held until judges review their custody terms. Case scheduling takes place through regional criminal court systems.

The Yuba City Police Department reported the arrest details in a social media post on Monday.
