A 41-year-old woman leapt from an automobile to flee an abduction in Stockton last night, police say. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the escape and received treatment at an area hospital.

The incident occurred in the Park District near Airport Way and Jackson Street. The woman accepted an offer for a ride to a store from an unknown driver. That account comes from the Stockton Police Department.

The suspect steered away from the destination once she entered the car. He refused to stop when she demanded to exit. She managed to jump free when the vehicle slowed down.

Officers are actively searching Stockton for the driver. Investigators describe him as a white or Hispanic man.

Kidnapping investigations typically involve patrol officers gathering details to identify suspects and locate getaway vehicles. Detectives coordinate with medical staff to interview victims once their conditions stabilize.

Police have not identified the suspect.
