Selma Blair arrested following midair incident on flight to New York
Actress Selma Blair was arrested at New York's JFK airport and taken to a hospital following an alleged midair plane incident on a Delta flight from Los Angeles.
Actress Selma Blair was arrested in New York following an airline incident over the weekend, according to authorities. She was detained and transported to a hospital for assessment after landing at John F. Kennedy International Airport on Sunday. The 54-year-old traveler was flying on a Delta Air Lines plane from LAX.
The FBI is investigating the alleged in-flight incident. Whether federal charges will be filed is not established.
Blair reportedly tried to open the plane door midair, according to TMZ. Crew members then tried to intervene. Blair is accused of punching one flight attendant. She allegedly bit another crew member.
The New York Port Authority said one flight attendant was taken to a hospital. Dispatch audio obtained by TMZ captured airline officials requesting medical staff at the gate. The requests were made to address injuries including bite marks and a bloody nose. The audio stated an unruly passenger bashed her head against a cabin partition.
“Delta has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first,” Delta Air Lines said in a statement.
A representative for Blair gave a statement regarding the New York disturbance.
“Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition,” Blair’s representative said.
Blair was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2018. The disease impacts the central nervous system, according to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. It can cause mobility issues, mood changes, memory difficulties and vision impairment. Blair revealed in 2021 that she had entered remission. In April 2026, Blair told TODAY she was “feeling well” and relapse-free.
Blair was removed from a flight in 2016, KTLA reported. She said she experienced “a total psychotic blackout” with her 4-year-old son. She called it “a big mistake” mixing alcohol with medication.
Federal authorities handle criminal investigations involving commercial aircraft once flights arrive at New York terminals. Medical staff and airport police meet incoming planes to evaluate injuries. Investigators then review witness accounts and dispatch logs.
Blair remained in stable condition following her medical evaluation.
