Fourteen-year-old Jameson Hendrix died after a vehicle crash in Turlock, where investigators are reviewing the circumstances. Family and community members gathered to honor his memory at a roadside tribute.

Turlock police say they do not believe drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash. The fatal collision happened early Saturday evening near Tokay Avenue and Old Vineyard Road. Hendrix had collided with a vehicle while riding an E-moto bike.

On Monday, visitors brought balloons, flowers and signs to the crash scene. Many signs bore the letters LLJ for Long Live Jameson. Free pizzas were also delivered to the roadside memorial for the crowd.

Family members are supporting each other through the grief. His aunt, Katie Placido, spoke about his family role. “He was the first baby in the family. So, he was like all of our babies,” Placido said.

His father, John Hendrix, described the comfort of the large turnout at the scene. He noted the deep affection shown by visitors. “Everybody’s just coming and showing all this love… I know it’s what I needed. I know he’s looking down, smiling right now,” Hendrix said.

Hendrix was the oldest of nine grandchildren. At family gatherings, relatives said he always waited his turn patiently. His grandmother, Karen Colvard, shared memories of his selflessness.

“I’m Mor Mor… He was my first grandchild. He was the kindest person you would ever want to know,” Colvard said. “And he would do anything for anyone. If he had two things, and two people needed it, those two people got it. And he would just take nothing.”

His father praised his nature. “How genuine of a soul he was,” Hendrix added.

Placido described him as a protector who made a significant impact on others. “He was just the big cousin,” Placido said. Relatives plan to post details for a memorial service once it is scheduled. A GoFundMe account is also set up to support the family.

Municipal collision investigations involve gathering physical roadway evidence and examining witness statements. Collision reconstruction teams work to establish vehicle movements and speed. Turlock emergency departments manage the initial response and scene safety during such incidents.

Everyone will be welcome to attend the service once the family finalizes the date.
