Georgia stands in position to claim the premier spot in Oregon and nationwide following a slate of weekend upsets. The shift comes after top teams suffered defeats in major rivalry games across the country. The latest poll results arrive at 2 p.m. EDT.

Second-ranked Georgia defeated No. 6 Alabama 20-17 in a road victory. The Bulldogs position themselves to claim the pinnacle spot for the first time since 2024. Alabama fell by three points following at least one contested decision by the officiating crew.

Top-ranked Texas lost to Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon during the Red River Rivalry. Oklahoma won the rivalry matchup in overtime. The defeat leaves the leading rank in the nationwide survey open to change.

Six teams in the national poll lost games over the weekend. No. 10 LSU fell in an overtime game against Kentucky. South Carolina defeated Florida, and UCLA pulled off a road victory over Oregon.

Upsets Reshape Top Teams

No. 21 UCLA beat No. 13 Oregon 17-15. Oregon committed seven turnovers. The Ducks lost five fumbles, including one on their final drive with under a minute left.

UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava threw for 162 yards and two interceptions. He left before the second half with a lower leg injury. Ty Dieffenbach replaced him, throwing for 43 yards and one touchdown.

Oregon backup quarterback Dylan Raiola completed 6 of 18 passes for 43 yards and two interceptions. Team officials benched Raiola. Brock Thomas replaced him on the field.

Other programs look to climb the national ranks after secure wins. Teams with single losses seeking higher placement include:

  • Kentucky
  • Northwestern
  • Wake Forest

Selection and Ballot Procedures

A group of 69 writers and broadcasters decide the college football standings. Voters work across the country, with allocation based on states that host Football Bowl Subdivision teams. Certain positions remain reserved for national writers.

Employees at the news agency do not vote on the rankings. Ballots are submitted through an online network. The system tallies points on a 1-to-25 scale before staff members review results for technical errors.

Athletic polls evaluate regular season team records through a panel of sports journalists. Panels review weekly schedules across multiple conferences to measure team progress throughout autumn play.

The revised national rankings release to audiences in Oregon and across the country on Sunday.
