Tate Sandell kicked a 47-yard field goal on the final play in Dallas on Saturday. The kick gave Oklahoma a 27-24 win over top-ranked Texas. The Sooners beat a top-ranked team for the first time since 2007. They had been 0-4-1 against number one Texas teams.

Arch Manning threw three touchdowns for Texas. Both of his interceptions were costly. The Longhorns are now 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the Southeastern Conference.

Texas had two late scoring chances in the game. Gianni Spetic missed a 53-yard field goal attempt wide right with 1:55 left on the clock. Oklahoma then went three-and-out for the seventh time.

Courtland Guillory intercepted Manning on his final throw with 19 seconds remaining. That turnover put the Sooners at their own 39-yard line. John Mateer then threw passes of 13 and 20 yards to Isaiah Sategna.

Replay reviews upheld both catches on opposite sides of the field. Oklahoma ran one play to position the ball for Sandell. The specialist had made a 53-yarder earlier in the contest. He also missed another kick from the same distance.

Special teams and defense kept the Sooners competitive throughout the afternoon in Dallas. Danny Okoye blocked a punt in the opening minute of the second quarter. Dakoda Fields fell on the ball in the end zone.

It was Oklahoma’s first touchdown against Texas since the 2023 game. That previous score came on a 3-yard pass from Dillon Gabriel to Nic Anderson. Lloyd Avant added a 2-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

That Avant score was the only offensive touchdown for the Sooners on Saturday. It followed a pass interference penalty on third-and-goal. Peyton Bowen later intercepted Manning and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown.

Manning scrambled from defensive pressure before making the errant throw. He targeted Cam Coleman on the play. Bowen made the interception and scored with 10:07 left to put Oklahoma ahead 24-17.

Coleman had an earlier score. He made a leaping 41-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter. Texas tied the score later on a 75-yard drive. Manning threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Bishop Jr. with 6:32 remaining.

Manning completed 19 of 31 passes for 260 yards. Mateer completed 18 of 26 passes for 155 yards. The Sooners gained only 238 yards of total offense.

The Red River rivalry is an annual college football game held during the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. Teams play conference games each autumn to earn spots in the postseason standings.
