A 15-year-old boy faces multiple charges after a stabbing at a Chico residence Monday, police say. The incident left a man hospitalized with serious injuries following an attempted forced entry into a home.

The Chico Police Department responded to a possible residential burglary in progress at 3:50 p.m. at a local residence. A reporting party told officers that their juvenile daughter’s boyfriend was trying to break into the house.

Dispatchers heard both minors yelling threats toward the parents, according to police. Callers also reported the presence of a knife. Officers arrived at the Chico property and found that the boy had fled on foot.

Police detained the juvenile girl at the scene and set up a perimeter. Officers saw the boy jumping fences in the area. They facilitated a surrender and arrested the youth nearby.

A man sustained multiple stab wounds during the incident, police said. Paramedics transported him to a hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Juvenile Hall facilities securely house minors accused of felony crimes while their cases move through the court system. Staff evaluate detainees before detention hearings occur. Cases then proceed under specialized state youth justice rules.

Authorities booked the youth into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, burglary and vandalism. The case remains under the jurisdiction of Chico law enforcement.
