Detectives identified Dennis Madsen following a suspicious death investigation in Dobbins, officials announced Monday. The discovery comes as authorities continue looking into two roadside bodies found in mid-September. Madsen was a 73-year-old resident of Grass Valley.

The Yuba County Sheriff’s Office found the bodies beside local roadways in less than 24 hours. The first body was discovered near Frenchtown Road and Dry Creek on Sept. 14. Deputies located the second body Sept. 15 on the shoulder of Plumas Arboga Road in Plumas Lake.

Investigators have not yet established the identity of the second person. A sheriff’s office spokesperson said that victim was an elderly Black woman. The incident remains under active investigation by the sheriff’s office and the Grass Valley Police Department.

Detectives do not view the deaths as separate cases. Officials stated in September that the two bodies appeared to be in different stages of decomposition.

Sheriff’s offices handle death investigations in unincorporated county areas. Detectives partner with local police departments when victims reside in nearby municipal jurisdictions.

Deputies have not provided additional details about the case. The investigation in Yuba County remains ongoing.
