Man dead after shooting involving Sacramento County deputy in Arden-Arcade
A man died Sunday after an Arden-Arcade shooting involving a Sacramento County deputy at a Marconi Avenue car wash, according to sheriff officials.
A male suspect died Sunday after a deputy-involved shooting at an Arden-Arcade car wash. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
Deputies responded around 11 a.m. to a business at 4313 Marconi Avenue. A caller reported an unknown man sleeping on the ground with a handgun on his lap. The caller told deputies the man resembled someone who shot at her and her boyfriend Saturday night.
The caller described the man as a transient, the sheriff’s office said. Deputies arrived at the Arden-Arcade location and found the suspect asleep on the ground. They used a horn to wake him up.
The man grabbed his gun and placed it closer to him. He then disregarded multiple orders from deputies. The man eventually stood up with his hands in the air, according to the sheriff’s office.
He then reached for his firearm and turned toward a deputy. A shooting involving a deputy occurred immediately afterward. No deputies were injured.
Emergency crews took the man to a hospital, where he died. Officials have not released the identity of the deceased man.
“It’s a scary call,” Edward Igoe, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said. “This is something that nobody wants to happen. It’s very unfortunate that based on his actions this officer-involved shooting occurred.”
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office provides law enforcement services to unincorporated communities across the region. When an officer-involved shooting occurs, agency detectives conduct an internal review of the encounter.
The sheriff’s office continues to actively investigate the shooting in Arden-Arcade.
