Thief targets trading cards in West Sacramento comic store burglary
West Sacramento police are investigating a burglary at Nine8 Comics and Games after a thief stole $200 in trading cards and caused $2,000 in damage.
Police are investigating an overnight break-in at a West Sacramento comic and game shop. An unknown suspect smashed the glass entrance, took store inventory and left extensive damage behind.
Officers have identified no suspects at this time, police said. The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. Tuesday.
A suspect broke the front door glass at Nine8 Comics and Games on 2105 Town Center Plaza, according to the West Sacramento Police Department. The business buys and sells comic books and collectible game items.
Co-owner Christopher Aliano said the intruder stole roughly $200 worth of trading cards. The break-in caused roughly $2,000 in property damage.
“We started Nine8 to build community in the fandoms that we love,” the store explained on its website.
The shop hosts weekly community events for card and tabletop role-playing games. This incident marks the third break-in at the West Sacramento location in three years.
Burglars frequently target Pokémon Trading Card Game items, Aliano told reporters.
“Collectibles are a hot commodity right now,” Aliano explained. “They’re easy to grab, and they’re untraceable, so they’re easy to sell.”
Commercial burglary investigations generally involve gathering physical evidence, reviewing surveillance footage and cataloging stolen merchandise. Detectives work to identify suspects through forensic items and local sales patterns.
The West Sacramento Police Department is actively investigating the incident. No arrests have been made.
